I’ve deliberately put off writing this review until 6 months after the completion of my pool renovation as I wanted to be able to assess the ownership experience of the new pool as well as the actual project work. The reason for the renovation is that the 40 year old, 75000 litre, in ground concrete pool was at the end of it’s life, and as a result of a number of patch repairs over the years was a nightmare to keep from going green.
Before agreeing to the work, I really appreciated Alex’s ability to listen to what we wanted from the new pool, his willingness to offer different solutions, and flexibility in making multiple changes to the final design and quote. Alex willingly updated the quote in writing accurately numerous times with new changes, and was always offering to explain how the changes had impacted the estimated cost. I valued the fact that Alex had been the sole contractor that I’d spoken to about the entire project and so he had all of the context, and that he would be on site, every day, on the tools, running the project.
The project was estimated to take 9 weeks and it was completed on time. When undertaking a project like this you are committing to having a team of builders on site for a lengthy period, and the core project team working with Alex are a lovely bunch of young men. Little things like a friendly hello, politeness, and pleasantness in all interactions with your family go a long way to making the fact that your home is a construction site a lot less stressful. We had no complaints from the neighbours regarding the project, another hassle I could do without.
Throughout the project there were the usual issues and unforeseen challenges that arise, and I really appreciated the fact that Alex was always on site and simply took care of things. Working full time during the project I had enough on my plate, and I liked how I wasn’t being required to solve problems in the build, and was being kept informed of them as necessary.
Post completion of the project there have been a few minor issues such as the pool gate closing too hard, the chlorinator failing due to a power surge, and water pooling on a tile. In all instances Alex has been very willing to help resolve the issue, even when it turned out to have nothing to do with him such as power surge, and he absolutely stands behind the quality of his work.
We’ve been delighted with the outcome, the final result was exactly as what had been planned. The pool is no longer my maintenance nightmare, and this summer we’ve used it as a family much more than what we had in years prior. In my dealings with Alex I found him to be trustworthy, dependable, and more than up to the task of delivering a complex project such as a large pool renovation.

We originally engaged Alex to re- tile our pool surrounds which had badly subsided. The workmanship in laying the travertine in a French pattern was excellent. During the work it was discovered that the pool needed relining. Alex managed to fit us into his schedule even though he had other jobs lined up. This was much appreciated. Faultless. Start on time, finished on time, did everything exactly as they said, cleaned up every day, pushed very hard to keep everything going when other trades and suppliers were causing delays or difficulties. Work is exactly as they promised. They make very fast progress, so get ready, and they also stop and listen, so be ready to say what you want. They listened to us about the smallest details, and created invisible drainage plus also worked with the very specific drains we needed to work for “flush threshold” big sliding timber doors. They made a very tricky layout look easy. A year later when we had some problems from other trades (i.e. not them) they still came back and offered ideas and investigated. They worked in really tight conditions and spaces without damaging anything. And cleaned up not just at the end of the job but at the end of each day so we could still use what space we had. Alex walks the talk.

Alex and his team at AGrade Landscapes have recently completed a very difficult amalgamation of two staircases and achieved an amazing resolution to a most difficult assignment. Many other companies saw what the job entailed, but were hesitant to progress with the quote due to the scope of work. Existing pool pavers had to be removed, concrete slab laid and then subsequently travertine tiles applied on top.
A Grade Landscapes were not hampered in any way with what was presented with the size of the job and provided me with the confidence to utilize their skills.
They sat down with me and outlined what was best suited for the area in question and the best layout for the tiles. The travertine tiles selected for the pool area of 180 square metres were perfect and matched the colour of the exterior of the house.

We built a new home on the Northern Beaches in 2011.
This house is on a slightly sloping block with ground water problems and poor drainage.
We employed A Grade Landscapes to build a number of retaining walls for us, all of which were completed not only to our satisfaction but also within the time frame agreed upon.
Alex suggested plant selections and assisted with the design of the front & back gardens which now look perfect for a beach house.
The back yard was a major challenge. Alex suggested a solution to a major drainage issue. His solution has proved to be completely successful and has adhered to council guide lines.
The back gardens were full of roots and had to be partially back filled owing to poor soil. To date we have not lost a plant.
All the landscaping was completed to above our expectations.
